Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Your child’s trip to their dentist at Golden Square Dental is now even more affordable and accessible as we bulk bill dental treatments that are eligible under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule plan.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an amazing program intended to help children achieve optimal oral health. The CDBS benefits children ages 2-17 years who receive Government benefits. It provides your child with up to $1000 worth of basic dental services over 2 calendar years.

What Dental Treatments Are Covered?

Eligible children are able to receive the following preventative and restorative treatments:

• Dental exams
• Check-up and clean
• X-rays
• Fluoride treatment
• Tooth fillings
• Fissure sealants
• Tooth extractions
• Root canal treatment

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule doesn’t cover orthodontic and cosmetic dental work, or procedures performed in hospitals. To check the CBDS’ restrictions for other dental treatments, you may check the Guide to CDBS.

Is Your Child Eligible?

Eligible children can freely enjoy and maximise the benefits of CDBS. To be eligible, your child must be 2 to 17 years old at least one day of the calendar year. They must also be eligible for Medicare on the day of their dental appointment. Be sure your child is part of a family receiving certain Australian Government payments such as:

• Parenting payment
• ABSTUDY
• Disability Support Pension
• Carer payment
• Veteran’s Children Education Scheme (if child is 16 or older)
• Special benefit
• Double Orphan Pension
• Youth allowance
• Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme (if child is 16 or older)

Use it or Lose it

If your child is eligible, we invite you to maximise the benefits before the year ends. This is because the remaining balance of the scheme at the end of a 2-year period is not applicable beyond that period. Keep in mind that only the eligible patient can make use of the benefit cap. Other non-eligible family members are not allowed to share the entitlements of the scheme.

Your child can use the $1000 grant once they are reassessed and if they are entitled to another grant. Furthermore, the basic dental services covered by CDBS will not contribute to the Medicare Safety Net or to the Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
